Candia – In the steps of Erotokritos and Aretousa

An Art Adventure with Erotokritos and Aretousa

The club SEDA Zoi Association, as part of its environmental education programs for children and families, is launching a new cultural walking tour through Venetian-era Heraklion (Candia).

During this two-hour journey, children will explore selected monuments in the city center while discovering the romantic tale of the young lovers Erotokritos and Aretousa—the heroes of Vitsentzos Kornaros’ magnificent 17th-century Cretan epic poem. Through interactive puzzles, they’ll engage with Venetian landmarks and learn about their history in a fun, hands-on way.

This educational activity was designed and led by archaeologist-museologist Fani Kampani, who has over 15 years of experience as an education officer at the Historical Museum of Crete.
    Designed for: Primary school children.

    Historical Museum of Crete

Cultural Tour: ``A Journey Through Cretan History``

After exploring the Minoan era at the Knossos archaeological site and the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, and discovering the Venetian monuments of Heraklion’s city center, our historical timeline leads us to the Historical Museum of Crete.

Here, we’ll uncover 17 centuries of local history, bringing us right up to the present day. We’ll explore:

    • Ottoman-era Crete and the Cretans’ struggle for freedom.

    • The period when Crete was an autonomous and independent state.

    • World War II in Crete and the events that forever changed our island’s history.

A visit to the Historical Museum of Crete also means an unforgettable encounter with two of its most famous figures: Domenikos Theotokopoulos (El Greco) and the modern literary giant Nikos Kazantzakis.

Designed for: All primary school students (with or without parent/guardian accompaniment).
